So you need more houses, as many as you have the production capacity to satisfy them. As an (extreme) example: if it costs $500 upkeep to make a product but you only have 5 fully satisfied houses that give you $50 each ($250 overall) then you are losing money, in this example you would need 10 houses to even break even on production costs. Which means you need to have enough residents to actually offset those production costs and start making money. Some bigger production chains cost thousands of dollars. Every building has an upkeep cost that comes with it. Have a look at how much each production chain costs. Obviously, those residents need to be satisfied with their needs to actually give you money. It's counterintuitive, because new players often think more houses will tank your income even more, but it's literally the main cash flow you get in this game. There is a concept in Anno that many new players fail to grasp at first: more houses=more money. But there's just so much to deal with, and I had to shut off all steel production just to not lose like 500 gold (per minute?), I feel like I can't recover from this but I'm like 8 hours into my game, I don't want to quit. ![]() I just started a colony on a new island that can produce peppers and hops, so hopefully once I start shipping them back to my original island I can go back to making money. I'm working on getting artisans, but they're very difficult to upkeep, making the facilities for the goods they want is expensive and I'm already losing money. I can't build more workers or farmers because I'm at my royal taxes and upkeep goods limit. I only have about 11k gold left so I will be bankrupt soon. I had to shut off steel production, and I'm still losing about 300 gold (per minute? Whatever-300 means). When I was forced to build steel facilities by the story, I got stuck in a death spiral where I needed more workers, which led to needing more ra Dom facilities, which increased my upkeep, then the extra workers gave me royal taxes, then the steel making facilities cost me extra upkeep as well. I seem to have hit another brick wall though. My first try I went bankrupt because I didn't understand that population gave you money, but on my second playthrough I got much further. ![]() I just bought Anno 1800 and I'm loving it so far.
